2024 Writing Progress

2024 Writing Progress

Well, once again it is the time of year when I’d like to post up how my writing progress has gone for the year (and, if you’re curious, you can compare this year’s progress update with last year’s here). Progress updates are a funny thing.  They imply a need for quantifiable achievement, and it is definitely true that I do like to tabulate things, probably more than other people would consider healthy (hence, the bottom of this post with my…

Weekly Garden Snapshot: 2024 week 49

See Previous | See Next We have come to the time of year when it really depends what part of the garden you live in. We have also come to the season of the Holidays, which are so busy, and so seem like as good a time as any for me to say that, going forward, I’m switching over from low-key weekly garden posts to very low-key garden posts, i.e., just the pictures.  Some weeks I write less than 100…

Weekly Garden Snapshot: 2024 week 48

See Previous | See Next Well, snow was predicted, and so it has come.  It is, of course, working on melting again, but things have been wintery enough this week to keep it sticking around for a little bit at least, not that all of the roses have yet 100% gotten the memo. Looking back 1-2 weeks and 1-2 years, the season does seem to be mostly one degree of snowiness or another. Looking back 2-4 weeks and 2-4 years…

Twisters or: What Great Writing Can Do For You

Twisters or: What Great Writing Can Do For You

This summer I went to see a movie in the theater.  This was sort of a big deal for me because, between one thing and another, I hadn’t been to a movie theater in many years.  (Also, the last movie I saw in a theater was…ah…disappointing. (IT WILL LIVE FOREVER IN MY MIND IN INFAMY!))  But I saw that Twisters was in theaters, and a) an action movie is usually a safe bet at a theater—the big screen makes action…

Weekly Garden Snapshot: 2024 week 47

See Previous | See Next This week everything has been poised, hovering between sunshine and frost. Looking back 1-2 weeks and 1-2 years, things do look perhaps a bit sunnier right now than the average, with the last couple years predicting that more snow will be arriving soon. Looking back 2-4 weeks and 2-4 years admits a little bit more companionable color, but still agrees about chill and snow ahead. …This week my garden is flirting with the sunshine.

Weekly Garden Snapshot: 2024 week 46

Weekly Garden Snapshot: 2024 week 46

See Previous | See Next This week some of the warmth came back for a bit and my garden took the opportunity to sparkle in the sunshine. Looking back 1-2 weeks and 1-2 years, is a definite mix of bright fall colors and the winter browns plus real snow coming into things. Looking back 2-4 weeks and 2-4 years makes it look like the bright fall colors are holding out a little longer this year than in some years past—we’ll…

Roses Round-up 2024

Roses Round-up 2024

Alright!  It’s November, which means that (at least theoretically) all of the roses that were going to bloom in my garden have done so, and now I get to show them off.  If it sounds like I’m a kid showing off their Christmas presents, that’s because I do quite love my roses (definitely more than my gardening skills warrant).  These aren’t exactly prize-winning flowers, but I’m going to show them to you anyway! Before I begin, though, I have to…

Weekly Garden Snapshot: 2024 week 45

See Previous | See Next Well, the snow arrived! and, for a little while (and several days) draped itself all over everywhere. Looking back 1-2 weeks and 1-2 years, one notes that this was a little bit late for a Colorado first snow of the season.  (But also that red fall foliage is very pretty.) Looking back 2-4 weeks and 2-4 years jumps in to add that snow doesn’t necessarily mean no new flowers…not necessarily (I would be surprised…) …This…
