photos taken June 10th 2023 of pink peonies and purple irises.

This week my peony is trying to take over my garden by lounging all over every part of it that it can reach.  The garden is way too big for such a thing to be possible but it’s still making an impressive attempt.  Also, my bearded irises are still a no-show.  But, in an interesting twist, I have surprise irises instead that last year I didn’t even know I was planting.  I thought I was planting first-thing-to-bloom-in-the-spring dwarf irises, but instead they’re blooming now and are a good 18 inches tall.  I don’t think the mix-up was purely on my part, either.  There’s a place near my work that has a bank of dwarf irises, and this year I saw these growing there too, mixed in…. It must be a surprise-iris conspiracy.

Looking back 1-2 weeks and 1-2 years shows that while all the rain has made things very green, it’s also been delaying some of my roses a little.

Looking back 2-4 weeks and 2-4 years also shows off that lots of rain isn’t the only sort of big weather to be had at this time of year – don’t forget the hail!

…This week, my garden is pretty pretty.
