Weekly Garden Snapshot: 2023 week 44
This week warmed up again a little bit and the snow of last week all melted. We had a brief window of that muddy, warm, melty time when the breeze can almost fool you that it’s actually spring, but it’s past now and everything is less green than before, rather than more. The foliage that hadn’t turned its fall colors yet seems to now be going straight from green to brown.
Looking back 1-2 weeks and 1-2 years shows a bit more color that we may just end up missing out on this year. I didn’t keep a nice enough container garden this year to get the late-blooming viola’s, though the leaves of those, the strawberry, and the ornamental cabbage are still holding on.
Looking back 2-4 weeks and 2-4 years gives a reminder of the pretty fall colors we did get this year, along with a sample of others that have eluded. In contrast to the up-coming from two years ago, my current raspberry canes are still 100% green…
…This week my garden is kind of bedraggled and still sorting itself out for the upcoming winter.
