Weekly Garden Snapshot: 2023 week 24

Weekly Garden Snapshot: 2023 week 24

See Previous | See Next This week has given us extremes, from raining buckets, to sunny-and-hot.  Yucca flowers are some of my favorites, but always so sadly short-lived.  And my roses might be slow to turn up this year, but some at least have a lot more buds than usual – I suppose they like being properly (rain) watered. Looking back 1-2 weeks and 1-2 years mostly gives hope of more roses – and also daisies coming soon. Looking back…

Happy Father’s Day!

Happy Father’s Day!

This is a Father’s Day post! because my dad is great!  I’m not very good at writing about things that are really important to me in a good way – my words get extra stilted for some reason.  But that’s not a good reason not to tell you that my dad is great, and important to me, and I’m really proud to be his daughter. A quick sketch of my father can be summed up with three activities: I think…

Weekly Garden Snapshot: 2023 week 23

See Previous | See Next This week my peony is trying to take over my garden by lounging all over every part of it that it can reach.  The garden is way too big for such a thing to be possible but it’s still making an impressive attempt.  Also, my bearded irises are still a no-show.  But, in an interesting twist, I have surprise irises instead that last year I didn’t even know I was planting.  I thought I was…

Weekly Garden Snapshot: 2023 week 22

See Previous | See Next I’m a bit under the weather this week. But my garden is all rain, rain, rain, Green! Green! Green! It’s like it’s working to wrap us all up in the idea of (slightly soggy) summertime. Looking back 1-2 weeks and 1-2 years suggests roses and peonies to come. Looking back 2-4 weeks and 2-4 years would also like to suggest clematis and penstemmon. …This week things are really bushy. (And there are no irises.)

A Refurbished Hat!

A Refurbished Hat!

Yay!  I’ve revived my raggedy hat.  Or rather, I patched the original hat (again, like I do) and then replaced the flowers. You have to understand, I’m not good at replacing things, particularly not articles of clothing. Instead I just patch or mend them until they’re mostly one giant patch. Or, you know, I don’t mend them. I just wear them forever until they become Very Frayed. The first time I started patching my coat it was because it was…
