Weekly Garden Snapshot: 2024 week 4

Weekly Garden Snapshot: 2024 week 4

See Previous | See Next

Sorry for the late posting!  My only excuse is that I was traveling this weekend and that apparently turned my brain to mush.

photos taken January 25th 2024 of sunlit hellebores leaves and dianthus still green under leaf litter.

Things are mostly warming up again around here, most of the snow melted again or persisting in huddled clumps here and there.  My garden isn’t fooled into thinking its spring quite yet, but the (tough and kind of sharp!) hellebores leaves are evergreen.  The dianthus really aren’t, but so far they’ve gotten enough moisture (and little enough cold) to keep pretending like they are.

Looking back 1-2 weeks and 1-2 years seems to be continuing with the theme of ‘there ought to be more snow.’  I know that snow melting in the winter isn’t so unusual around here, but these mosaics are making me feel vindicated in say that, on the whole, this has been a really warm winter so far.

A mosaic of 11 weekly garden images showing mid January to early February for 2022-2024. Mostly snow on top of brown garden things, but also some shots of winter-green hellebores leaves.

Looking back 2-4 weeks and 2-4 years is a little more mixed, with some reminders that, yeah, sunny and warm and dry is sometimes the Colorado winter way of being.  (Or also, snow.)

…This week my garden is patiently sunny.
