Weekly Garden Snapshot: 2023 week 15

photos taken April 15th 2023 of snow sprinkling branches like white blossoms and a bright, yellow daffodil.

Yay.  We had some blessed rain and snow this week, and that really made things perk up lovely.  For a little bit on Saturday, the grass had snow shadows in the shapes of the trees, and sprinkled snow lay on the plum branches like white blossoms.

white hellebores amongst new-green and old-brown leaves.

And the daffodils are here! random yellow dots here and there and everywhere!  I love bulb flowers.

I also love my pretty, pretty hellebores, and so I couldn’t resist including one extra picture.  These beautiful white ones have a purple speckling on the inside.  But they’re currently a bit trapped and obscured by 1) the fact I haven’t pruned out the dead leaves in their part of the garden yet, and 2) the wire basket I use to keep the rabbits (or squirrels?) from cutting them.  They don’t eat them, just cut them and leave them where they lay.  (Though, honestly, hellebores do make gorgeous cut flowers…)

Looking back 1-2 weeks and 1-2 years shows a seemingly relentless springtime progression of color, with purple and red on one end, and white and yellow on the other – but that’s just my particular garden being very particular about this particular time of year.

Looking back 2-4 weeks and 2-4 years, though there’s a data gap, does support the white blossoms coming up, though.  Apple blossoms in this view.  Plum blossoms in the previous one.  Both delicious and prettier than the brief, snowy faux blossoms I had this week.

…This week my garden is starting to remember how to be green!
