A Refurbished Hat!
Yay! I’ve revived my raggedy hat. Or rather, I patched the original hat (again, like I do) and then replaced the flowers.
You have to understand, I’m not good at replacing things, particularly not articles of clothing. Instead I just patch or mend them until they’re mostly one giant patch.
Or, you know, I don’t mend them. I just wear them forever until they become Very Frayed. The first time I started patching my coat it was because it was to the point of looking like I’d been attacked by zombies. I’ve patched it many times since, but I’m still kind of back to the point of looking like zombies were involved – it really needs another round of patching.
Hats don’t get beat up quite as badly as coats do, but you should note that I’ve had this hat for a very long time. I pinned a sunflower to my husband’s hat to go to the Renaissance Festival one summer (before either of my children were born) and it has been my hat ever since, with said sunflower remaining firmly in place.
(Turns out a large hat was just what I needed to fit my bun inside, otherwise my bun and hats, obnoxiously, really don’t mix.)
So, below is the progression for this long-suffering hat (and valiant, long-suffering sunflower).
It was definitely time to replace that poor sunflower (and also add some new patches in the process, of course). And, you know, if I’m going to go to the trouble to buy and sew on a new sunflower, I might as well buy and sew on some pretty roses to go with it! The original sunflower was a product of haste, after all. And a hat can’t really have too many flowers.
So, here are some prettier pictures of it. What do you think?
