Weekly Garden Snapshot: 2023 week 49

photos taken December 9th 2023 of snowy pine branches and a yucca mostly buried in snow.

So, this past week the snow did all completely melt, such that the ground was visible even in the front garden.  As soon as that was done, though, it promptly snowed two very decorative inches of snow, as shown in the photos – so very pretty!  And now it is, promptly, working on turning all soggy and melty again.

Looking back 1-2 weeks and 1-2 years gives a deceptively strong impression that December has been growing steadily snowier over the past couple of years.  Really, it’s just a reminder that the dried-out-and-brown look will be coming back around, sooner or later.  Once-a-week sampling doesn’t really catch the weather this time of year.

Looking back 2-4 weeks and 2-4 years shows off some hardy flowers (violas) (which are all done for this year), as well as plenty of shots of the winter-green hellebores, which will almost certainly be showing up in this season’s photos shortly.

…This week my garden is playing peek-a-boo hiding under the snow.  We’ll see what face it’s making next week.
